NCC to Flag off Independent Study on Nigeria’s Telecoms Sector’s Competition Level

Date:

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), plans to flag off an independent and comprehensive assessment study on the level of competition in the country’s telecommunications sector.

According to a statement by the Head of Public Affairs of the Commission, Nnenna Ukoha, the study is being undertaken pursuant to section 92 of the Nigerian Communications Act NCA 2003, and the Competition Practices Regulations CPR 2007.

The statement also disclosed that the proposed exercise, which will entail the appointment of a private consultant is designed to deliver an objective, evidence-based evaluation of competitive dynamics across the telecoms market in Nigeria.

“Findings from the study are expected to guide appropriate regulatory actions aimed at strengthening fair competition, protecting consumer interests, stimulating investment, and advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda in line with long-term industry sustainability.

“To the NCC, the appointed consultant will not act alone as he or she will consult widely with key stakeholders, including licensed operators, industry associations, and consumer advocacy groups. These stakeholders will be encouraged to submit data, insights, and policy perspectives to support a robust and inclusive analysis”, the statement read.
