Societal Concerns Organisation, a civil society organisation, is set to honour community leaders who have selflessly contributed to community development.
The two-in-one event which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2005, at Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Alausa, Lagos, will also address the critical societal problem of femicide,
According to a press release signed by the President, Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi, the event is meant to celebrate personalities who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to community building and who have dedicated their times and resources to fostering progress and addressing key societal challenges.
The event will feature a symposium themed “Breaking the Silence: Understanding and Preventing Femicide in Our Community”.
Oluwapelumi stated that femicide, a global issue rooted in economic hardship, societal pressure, and patriarchal norms, remains a significant threat to women.
“Societal Concerns Organisation seeks to empower communities, advocate for systemic change and foster a culture of respect and equality.
The objective of the symposium is to uncover the sociocultural and economic factors contributing to femicide, proposing measures to enhance women’s safety and security, strengthening legislative frameworks and law enforcement roles in protecting women including promoting education, advocacy and economic empowerment for women”.
