Press Briefing By The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, SP Odiko Macdon (ANIPR), Held On 23rd July, 2021 At The State Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State

Akwa Ibom State Police Command Counts Gains Akwa Ibom State Police Command has counted its achievements under the new State Commissioner of Police, CP Amiengheme Andrew. In a press briefing held at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, the Police Public Relations Officer, Gentlemen of the press, Superintendent of Police Odiko MacDon, the Police Command counted its gains. On assumption of duty as the 30th Commissioner of Police of the State, the CP promised to make the State very uncomfortable for criminal elements and work with the Government, Sister Security Agencies and the good people of the State to ensure that the State continue to  be peaceful for the People, Investors and Tourists. Only recently, some hoodlums thought they could have a filled day by snatching vehicles, robbing supermarkets and pharmacy shops. I am delighted to inform you that we have most of them in our custody and closing in on those at large. We have made  giant strides in securing the State so for and will spare no resources in riding the State of Criminal Elements. _*Here are some of the lofty achievements:*_ 1. *ARREST OF MURDER AND ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS:* On 10/7/2021 at about 9:53am, following a tip-off that unknown hoodlums used welding machine to maliciously destroy an Access Bank Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at Oliver twist, along Brook Street, Uyo and carted away the sum of eight million naira (N8M), Operatives of Anti-Robbery Squad traced the hoodlums to Tantalizer fast food situated at Abak Road, Uyo while attempting to destroy another ATM, and arrested the following suspects: i. Praise Sunday Nwagwu ‘m’, aged 30yrs of Elelenwa village, Obio Akpor L.G.A in Rivers State. ii. Tony Uche Ambrose ‘m’, aged 41yrs of Umudim, Ikeduru L.G.A in Imo State. iii. Sunday Edet Udo ‘m’, aged 32yrs of Ikot Ambang village, Ibiono Ibom L.G.A in Akwa Ibom State. Items recovered from the suspects include: i. Two gas cylinder filled with gas ii. Two welding pipes iii. Two shifting spanners. iv. One custom coloured Toyota Corolla Car with Reg. No. BRR 437 RM During interrogation, the suspects confessed to have been involved in the following crimes within the State: i. Destruction of Access Bank ATM and robbing of N8M at Oliver twist, Uyo ii. Destruction of Union Bank ATM and robbing of N11M at College of Education, Afaha Nsit iii. Destruction of ATM and Robbing of N7M at Ikot Ekpene L.G.A iv. Double attack on Jean Juliet Supermarket at Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo where they killed a little boy and robbed two vehicles. v. Attack on Metropolitan Supermarket at Oron Road, Uyo vi. Robbing of E-Plus mates at Atiku Abubakar Avenue, Uyo. vii. Murder of two (2) Policemen at Tranquility Hotel, Nung Oku, Ibesikpo Asutan. viii. Robbing of Maya Restaurant at Two Lane where a private security was killed. ix. Robbing of R & R Supermarket at Nwaniba Road, Uyo where a Siena car was robbed. *2. ARREST OF CAR SNATCHING SYNDICATE AND RECOVERY OF THREE (3) LOCALLY MADE PISTOLS AND FOUR (4) VEHICLES*: Based on available Intel, on 18/7/2021 at about 1:00pm, Men of Anti-Robbery Squad ambushed and apprehended a 5-man armed robbery gang, namely: i. Nsikak Godwin Sunday ‘m’ of Afaha Ikot Obio Nkan, Ibesikpo Asutan L.G.A ii. Ubong Edem Edet ‘m’ of Afaha Ikot Obio Nkan, Ibesikpo Asutan L.G.A iii. Richard NseUko ‘m’ of Ibedu Idikpa, Nsit Atai L.G.A iv. Otobong Uwem Essien ‘m’ of Odion Itam, Itu L.G.A v. Itohowo Linus Edet ‘m’ of Mbiabam, Ibiono Ibom L.G.A The suspects confessed to be members of an armed robbery and car snatching syndicate terrorizing Uyo metropolis and its environs. Exhibits recovered from the suspects include: i. Four (4) Locally made pistols ii. Four (4) expended cartridges iii. One (1) empty shell of AK-47 ammunition iv. A red coloured Toyota Sienna car with Reg. No. MUS 797 GS v. White coloured Toyota Camry car with Reg. No. AKD 367 GC vi. Black coloured Mercedes Benz ML 350 car with Reg. No. WGD 74 AA vii. Some items suspected to be charm and Household items *3. ARRESTS OF SUSPECTED HOODLUM INVOLVED IN THE ATTACK OF MKPATAK POLICE OUTPOST:* On 21/6/2021 at about 12:30pm, relying on useful intelligence, a combined team of Anti-Robbery Squad and Essien Udim Division apprehended one Otobong Asuquo a.k.a “Eyeneka ‘m’, of Ekpenyong village, in Essien Udim L. G. A, who was involved in the attacked of Mkpatak Police outpost on 9/5/2021. The suspect who shot at the Police on arrival, was overpowered and a locally made pistol was recovered from him and confessed to have been involved in some attacks in Essien Udim L.G.A and environs. *4. ARREST OF THREE (3) MURDER SUSPECTS*: Based on information, Operatives of Ukanafun Division apprehended one Blessing James Akpan ‘m’ and Akara Udo ‘m’ who battered and killed one Mfon Ekpembe Udoefik ‘f’, aged 51yrs of Ikot Akpan Nkuk, Ukanafun L.G.A. The suspects fled to Etche L.G.A in Rivers State where they were arrested by the Operatives. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. Also, on 21/6/202, following disturbing information that one Imoh Sunday Uko ‘m’, aged 38yrs murdered one Udo John Uko ‘m’, aged 47yrs of Ntukuk, Abak L. G. A. and absconded to unknown destination, the Detectives of Abak Division trailed the suspect to a neighbouring village where he was arrested. Investigation revealed that on 16/6/2021, the suspect used a bamboo stick and hit the deceased on his stomach which led to his death after four (4) days of the incident. *5. ARREST OF FOUR (4) ROBBERY SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF A LOCALLY MADE PISTOL:* On 20/6/2021 at about 2:30am, relying on intelligence, Operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Squad apprehended one Kerefon E. Ekanem, Samuel M. John, Idorenyin P. Wilfred and Michael W. Edet, all male of Aka Etinan and Mbiabong villages in Uyo and Ibiono Ibom L.G.A respectively. The suspects were fingered in attacks on provision shops and pedestrians along Aka Road and its environs. The suspects confessed to serial attacks on innocent pedestrians including robbing and gang raping a lady on 16/6/2021. A locally made barrel shotgun was recovered from the principal suspect, Kerefon E. Ekanem. *6. ARREST AND ARRAIGNMENT OF THREE (3) SUSPECTS WHO BAG SAND IN PLACE OF CEMENT AND SELL:* On 15/6/2021 at about 9:30pm, Operatives of Quick Intervention Unit of the State Police Command while on routine patrol along Atai Obio Offot, Uyo, reasonably suspected and arrested one Mathias Anthony Ekong, Akwaowo Etim Emmah and Ubong Ededem Udo, all male of Atai Obio Offot, Uyo while loading some bags of sand in a Mercedes Benz Truck with Reg. No. ENU 154 ZZ with the pretense of loading UNICEM cement. During investigation, suspects confessed to the crime of adding sand to cement, rebag it and sell to unsuspecting Members of the public. They have been arraigned in court. *7. ARREST OF ROBBERY SUSPECTS AND RECOVERY OF STOLEN VEHICLE*: On 7/6/2021, based on a distress call received from control hotline, of a missing Siena Car with Reg. No. KET 26 EG, driven by one Blessing Richard Imose ‘f’, Operatives of Quick Intervention Unit swung into action and arrested one Wisdom Anietie Eyo ‘m’ of No. 48 Etim Okon Usanga Street, Uyo which led to the recovery of the said stolen vehicle. During interrogation, the suspect made useful statement which led to the arrest of one Aniekan Kenneth Joshua ‘m’, Nsikak Eno Edet ‘m’,  Erikan Okon Raphael ‘m’ and Cecilia James Udo ‘f’. All suspects will be charged to court at the completion of investigation. Once again, we thank the Government of His Excellency *Mr. Udom Emmanuel*, Sister  Security Agencies and the loving people of the State for being good partners and wish to crave  their indulgence to continue supporting the Police and furnishing us with credible information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution Criminal Elements in the State as the Command is poised to provide qualitative Police services to Residents.
