Towards the 22nd World Conference of Banking Institutes

On Monday, March 13, 2017, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria held a world press conference at Bankers House, Victoria Island, Lagos. The Conference was addressed by the Chairman of Organising Committee for the World Conference, Dr. Segun Aina and the President and Chairman of the Council of CIBN, Professor Segun Ajibola.

The Press Conference was conveyed to formally inform and brief the Press and the media houses in Nigeria about the forthcoming World Conference of Banking Institutes (WCBI) which is taking place for the first time in Nigeria since the Institute was established since 1975. The Conference is scheduled to take place between 24th and 28th April, 2017 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

About 49 high-profile speakers and facilitators from across all continents, made up of 24 foreign and 25 Nigerian speakers including delegates from all over the world are expected to grace the occasion.

The Conference is also expected to inaugurate the Global Banking Education Standards Board (GBESTB). The body is responsible for developing and promoting global education standards for the banking industry. “It is instructive to mention that this is the very first time such a body would be launched in the world”, according to Professor Segun Ajibola in his speech at the World Press Conference.

Over the last 54 years, the Institute has continued to grow numerically and in various capacities with notable landmark achievements which include a membership strength of 116, 000 showcasing the Institute as the largest in Africa and one of the largest in the world.

The theme of the Conference is “Re-Thinking the Future of Banking and Finance & Life Long Learning”. CIBN won the rights by unanimous votes to host the 22nd edition of the Conference on April 7, 2015 in Seoul, South Korea.

The biennial Conference is a forum that brings together professionals from the financial services industry and other stakeholders engaged in banking, education, and training.

The 22nd Edition will feature, among many other interesting events, the following: Welcome Cocktail on Monday April 24th, Opening Ceremony on Tuesday, April 25th, 5 Business Sessions from Tuesday April 25th to Wednesday, April 26th, 4 Plenary Sessions on Wednesday, April 26th, Gala Dinner on Wednesday, April 26th at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Tour of Lagos West Badagry, Thursday, April 27th and finally, departure scheduled for Friday, April 28th.
